Badener-/Saumackerstrasse

Centrally located in Zurich Altstetten at the junction of Badenerstrasse and Saumackerstrasse, this replacement building with 30 rental apartments, 4 commercial units and an underground car park was realised. The cramped conditions on the small plot were a major challenge from the planning phase onwards. The high groundwater level in the Limmat valley gravel called for creative solutions for the excavation pit and drainage. The shotcrete excavation wall was unconventionally left as a visible surface, making the external wall usually built in such projects unnecessary. For the sake of aesthetics, the shotcrete surface was smoothed and painted. The busy road and adjacent tram line posed significant challenges for site logistics and safety during construction.
